Terminal markets are an essential business-to-business link between farmers and businesses. They are centralized warehouses where fresh food arrives by pallets, is broken down into smaller lots and distributed to grocery stores, restaurants and institutions. This creates a competitive, open-air market open to small and large sellers alike. Large food companies bypass terminal markets and use their own distribution systems. Wholesale bypass reduces market access for small and mid-size farms and independent grocers and restaurants have fewer options to buy wholesale products.

Wisconsin Food Systems is a group of volunteers committed to organizing and expanding the wholesale marketplace for regional foods. To accomplish this, we have three on-going projects:
